If you are looking to purchase luxury property in South Florida, Boca Raton Real Estate must be the first market to explore. Boca Raton is the southernmost city in Palm Beach County. It has a total area of 29 sqm with beautifully landscaped streets and a total population of 84,392 residents. This population fluctuates seasonally with an increase of almost 20% every year.

Boca Raton: Early History

The tropical climate with an average of 76 F is perfect to enjoy the two-mile stretch of lifeguard-protected beaches. This pristine beach area, isolated and serene, provides a recreational use for the thousands who wish to spend time at the ocean. Although most beach visitors enjoy swimming and beach lounging, provisions are also available for volleyball games, along with recommended areas for canoe/kayak launching, surfing and snorkeling.

The city's early history starts with several investors interested in turning Boca Raton into a resort town. Most famously, Addison Mizner had several projects for resorts and mansions in the area. The city of Boca Raton was originally occupied by the Tequesta tribe, a Native American tribe that was later cleared from the area by the Spanish and the British. The first significant settlement was established in 1895 in the area south of what is now the Palmetto Park Road Bridge.

Around 1904 Japanese farmers of the Yamato Colony converted the land west of Boca Raton into pineapple plantations. The plantation's didn’t last long due to a blight that destroyed much of their crops. By the 1920’s most colonists had returned to Japan. The Japanese heritage survived with the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens and the name of NW 51st Street named Yamato Road.

Boca Raton Real Estate Expansion

It was around this time that the first Boca Raton real estate boom attracted investors turning the city into a resort town. The attention of a group of investors headed by renowned architect Addison Mizner worked on several projects for hotels and mansions in the area. It is Mizner's trademark pink tints and architectural style that still dominate architecture throughout the city.

Mizner first constructed the Administrative Buildings and a small hotel to house interested investors. His Ritz-Carlton Cloister Inn was built in 1926, later renamed the Boca Raton Resort & Club, and is one of the only "5 stars" hotels located in Florida. The 1969 addition of its "pink tower" hotel building is visible from miles away as a towering monument on the Intracoastal Waterway.

During World War II much of the land on West Boca was confiscated by the military to be used as the site of the Boca Raton Army Air Force Base. The facility was later donated to Palm Beach County and later became the campus of Florida Atlantic University. After the end of the war, the region expanded under the influence of the construction of IBM’s main complex. The noteworthy IT Company influenced the expansion of I-95 into Southern Florida leading the suburban development of the town.

Current Boca Raton Real Estate Market

As development continued in the 1980’s and 1990’s Boca Raton solidified its position at a premier resort town in South Florida. The Boca Raton Real Estate market features a wide variety of luxury homes. The offerings include lavish waterfront homes in the estate section and Mizner-style enclaves. Including oceanfront condominiums and country club communities. Properties on the Intracoastal with deep-water dockage for boats and yachts are also available.
